GreenSwitch Works In A Circle

There’s a new buzz word in town – the circular economy. We are big fans – especially since we’ve been doing exactly that for over thirty years. All our tableware products are made from agri-residue. What is agri-residue? It’s simply the leftovers that used to be burned. Now, we use it to make juicy, glumpy, glorious pulp. But let’s start at the beginning.

1. Growing

Sugarcane grows abundantly where we live and then sweetens the world.

Sugarcane is a perennial grass that can grow up to 4 meters high and 5 centimeters in diameter. It is cultivated by replanting sections of mature stalks called setts or billets.

These setts grow new shoots from joints and form new plants. Sugarcane grows best in subtropical and tropical areas with high rainfall or irrigation

2. Harvesting

Farmers harvest sugarcane from their family plots. All these local farmers bring their crops to the sugar mill which squeezes all the juice out and we are left with just the fibrous stalk. That's all we need.

Sugarcane can be harvested by hand or by a mechanical harvester. Hand harvesting involves setting fire to the field to burn up dry leaves and snakes, and then cutting the cane with knives or machetes. The harvested cane or billets are then loaded into bins or trucks and transported to the sugar mill

3. Processing

We take the sugarcane stalk and squish it, moosh it, wrangle it, (everything but stomp on it) until we have pulp to make compostable tableware. Turns out, the short fibers of sugar cane are the best in the world for curving around all the shapes we need for plates and bowls, and trays.

We leave our products in the natural shade so we don’t need to use any harmful bleaching chemicals. No human hands touch the product in our state-of-the-art facility which ensures total hygienic products.

4. Distribution

Then our team of local village women pack up the products, and ship them to a distributor near you, where they wait until a Quick-service restaurant, a business canteen or maybe a caterer or YOU decide to make a difference and start using a healthier option. (Besides - GreenSwitch is cheaper than plastic!)

Our production process is also environmentally friendly. We use green energy from biogas to power our factories, which reduces our carbon footprint. We also minimize water consumption and waste generation.

5. Consumption

Once they polish off their biryani or pizza or sandwiches, the customer trashes the plate. But WAIT! Here's what's great about GreenSwitch: after composting for 90 days, it goes back to serve the earth. It feels like magic - but we just call it GreenSwitch.

Our plates are not only good for the environment, but also for your health. They are free from harmful chemicals and toxins that can leach into your food from plastic or styrofoam.

We are the only pulp-2-product brand in the world. What does this mean for you? You can count on us for quality, consistency, and reliable supply. Basically, we’re in it together and CHUK products roll off the shiny machines ready to head your way. Making things will always require energy and perhaps waste— but we’re trying our best to minimize harmful impact. And if you got any ideas on how we can do any better, we’re happy to hear!
